What is Tandem Press Line

Tandem Press Line is an automated system of large presses arranged in sequence, each dedicated to one step like deep drawing, forming, or trimming, with robots transferring parts until they become finished components. Our LS4 Series Straight Four Point Multi-link Press is often the first or key station, using balanced four-point force and an optimized slide motion to produce large, precise deep-drawn parts while working seamlessly with automation for consistent quality and efficiency.

Tandem Press Detailed Explanation

You can think of the Tandem Press Line as a "relay race" production line - multiple large presses are arranged in process sequence, each machine is responsible for completing a specific process, and the workpiece is sent from the first to the last machine by manipulators, robots or conveyor beams.

LS4 Series Straight Four Point Multi-link Press

In a tandem press line, the inline four-point multi-link press is the primary deep-drawing process, sometimes also serving as an intermediate shaping station. Its structural rigidity, kinematic curve, and uniform force distribution make it indispensable for the production of large, high-precision exterior panels.

3000-ton Tandem Press Line

Designed for medium annual production volumes and models without a focus on extra-large exterior panels, this setup offers cost efficiency and flexibility for quick model changeovers. Applicable to: Medium annual production volume/models not primarily based on extra-large exterior panels; Requires limited investment and flexible model changeovers. Typical parts: Door exterior and interior panels, large appliance panels, etc. Material/Thickness: Mild steel, aluminum alloy; approximately 0.6–1.2 mm.

3,000–5,000-ton Tandem Press line

Applicable to mainstream joint ventures or self-owned automakers with a wide vehicle range, this configuration handles both common panels like doors and fenders as well as larger components such as hoods, roof panels, and floor assemblies. Applicable to: Who have a broad vehicle range, manufacturing doors and fenders, as well as hoods, roofs, and floor panels. Typical parts: hoods, roofs, side panels, large floor panels, etc. Material/Thickness: Steel/Aluminum; 0.6–1.6 mm; containing a certain percentage of high-strength steel (HSS).

5000-ton Tandem Press Line

Applicable to manufacturers focusing on extra-large exterior panels, full side panels, large floor assemblies, or oversized components for commercial vehicles and pickup trucks, aiming to achieve high-complexity forming with fewer stations. Typical parts: complete side panels, large-size roofs/floors, commercial vehicle hulls, and complex integrated exterior panels. Material/Thickness: A higher proportion of plates thicker than 1.6 mm; extensive coverage of aluminum alloys; involving ultra-high-strength steel (UHSS)/partially hot-formed precursors.

FAQs

Q: How do I select between 3000 t, 3000–5000 t, and >5000 t lines?
~3000 t: Best for medium annual volumes without extra-large exterior panels; door outers/inners, large appliance panels; mild steel or aluminum ~0.6–1.2 mm. 3000–5000 t: Mainstream automakers with wider model coverage; doors/fenders plus hoods, roof panels, floor assemblies; steel or aluminum 0.6–1.6 mm incl. HSS. >5000 t: Extra-large exteriors and assemblies (full side outers, large roofs/floors, CV/pickup shells); thicker sheets >1.6 mm, aluminum at scale, UHSS or locally hot-formed blanks. We’ll size the first two forming stations and bolster envelope to your biggest part and material mix, with 10–20% force headroom.
Q:What does Yangli’s LS4 Series Straight Four Point Multi-link Press add to the line? Why “servo on the first” or “dual servo”?
LS4 provides four-point balanced force and a multi-link motion curve that slows through the forming zone—ideal for large deep-draw panels. A servo LS4 at the first station stabilizes material flow, reduces tearing/wrinkling, and improves A-surface quality; dual-servo (first + second) further tightens dimensional control on difficult aluminum/HSS/UHSS parts and typically lifts yield.
Q: What equipment is included in a complete line?
A typical scope covers de-stacker and blank separation, washer/oiler, robots or crossbar transfer, press group (e.g., LS4 + downstream presses), QDC systems, in-line inspection (vision/laser/profile), automatic destacking, safety interlocks, and line control. We integrate these as one coordinated system.
Q: What are the facility and utility requirements?
Line length is usually ~35–75 m depending on stations and part size, with overhead cranes ≥30–50 t for tool handling, reinforced foundations, stable power supply, and plant air/oil systems. We deliver a pre-install checklist (footprint, pit, power, crane, logistics path) to de-risk layout.
Q: How do you handle commissioning, training, service, and ROI?
We provide turnkey installation, tryout and capability runs, operator/maintenance training, and remote diagnostics. Typical install-to-ramp spans 8–16 weeks depending on scope. Spare parts and on-site support are backed by Yangli’s service network; we can model ROI based on your takt targets, part mix, and scrap-rate reduction from servo LS4 stations.
